about

This 1971 spoken-word recording presents short biographies and selected writings by or about 13 important women in American history who fought for women’s equality through their writing and professional and/or personal life. Included among the women are early colonial settler Anne Hutchinson, Sojourner Truth, and 19th-century suffragettes Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. The liner notes contain a transcript of the tracks, read by the two album producers, Doreen Rappaport and Susan Kemplar. This recording is a companion with But the Women Rose, Vol. 2: Voices of Women in American History (FW05536).
